Chapter 40: Goals Met, Waiting for the Right Time
In the spacious dining room, Ella viewed the video where Lucien was helping Hedy into the neighborhood, and they entered an apartment together. The angle was somewhat distant, but the high-definition camera provided a clear view.
Ella observed as Lucien transformed into a different person the moment they stepped into the room, passionately kissing Hedy with a desire that was blatantly evident.
In her previous life, she and Lucien were married for ten years. Throughout that time, she had never witnessed Lucien in such an animalistic mood. Ella felt a tinge of bitterness, but she suppressed her emotions. After all, she'd already come to terms with Lucien's vile depravity.
In the video, Lucien was carrying Hedy to bed and crawling on top of her, and Hedy was looking up at him with lust painted on her face. They kissed again while they tore off each other's clothes—
"Hey!" Ella cried as Eden took the phone away. "What are you doing?!"
"You were seriously just gonna watch your fiancé and another woman..." Eden raised his eyebrows. "Aren't you angry?"
"No," Ella's tone remained irritated, "I need to make sure they actually did it."
"You really don't understand men," Eden said as he placed his phone inside his pants pocket, "Men never come to a screeching halt when they're that far gone. Not unless..."
Unless what?
Ella observed Eden closely, and although he didn't say anything, she noticed something distinctly suspicious about his eyes and the way he looked at her.
He changed the subject, "I'll save you the trouble of watching the rest. Yes, they did have sex. Undeniably."
"I could've confirmed it myself." Ella was a little angry, feeling like he was just manipulating her. This bastard…
"So you wanted to see Lucien fuck another woman?" Eden said bluntly.
Sometimes Eden was the picture-perfect gentleman, and sometimes he was a rogue, saying anything and everything.
He continued, "You're better off not looking. He isn't much to look at anyway."
Ella truly felt tired of dealing with Eden's antics at times. In the heat of the moment, she blurted out with a fiery tone, "And you are?"
"More than him, at the very least," he smirked.
Ella was utterly exasperated with this response. So Eden was a bit more handsome. Why was that a big deal? Why was he making such a fuss about it?
It took her a while to realize that Eden wasn't talking about his face.
"You were out all night, Miss Ford. Aren't you worried about what your parents might think?" Eden clearly ignored her anger and reminded her with a kind face, "Your cell phone was ringing all night."
Ella seemed to react instantly. "Where's my cell phone?" she asked, feeling a sense of panic. In her heart at that moment, she knew it was over. How would she explain to her parents where she had been all night?
Eden brought her cell phone over and handed it to her.
"Is it dead?"
"It was loud, so I turned it off," Eden said casually.
Ella really wanted to smack him. Her parents must have been worried sick last night.
She quickly turned on the phone. The moment she turned it on, countless missed calls flashed up. There were twenty from her parents alone, then there were a dozen of Cendy's, and the most recent one was from Lucien.
Ella gritted her teeth and chose to dial Cendy's number first. Cendy answered after one ring, "Ella! I was about to call the police!"
Ella didn't respond immediately, overwhelmed by Cendy's shrieking coming out of the speaker.
"Did Eden kidnap you? Tell me. I'll have the police there in seconds to give him what he deserves!" Cendy was agitated beyond belief.
"No, I'm fine. Just got drunk last night and crashed at Eden's place."
"Slept over?" Cendy's voice rose.
"It was innocent."
"Innocent? Eden?" Cendy didn't believe it at all.
She didn't believe it either, but the fact remained that nothing had happened between her and Eden last night. By now, she was certain that they hadn't crossed any intimate lines.
After all, if they had, it would've been her first time. Everyone felt sore the morning after, but she was feeling fine.
On the contrary, she almost admired Eden for respecting her boundaries.
She always felt that any man would turn into a primitive animal when sex was on the table.
Or maybe it was that… she simply wasn't attractive.
Lucien wasn't interested in her, and neither was Eden.
Ella shook off the thought, deciding it didn't matter what men thought of her; she no longer held any expectations.
"Ella?!" Cendy shouted through the phone.
"Yes, I'm fine now. I'm just calling to tell you that when I get back in a little while, I'm going to tell my parents that I got drunk with you, so I went to your house and slept over. You do the same with your family and make sure the stories match," Ella said firmly.
Cendy was instantly disgruntled, "Why should I take the fall?!"
"Because you love me," Ella chuckled.
Cendy was left speechless.
"I'm hanging up," Ella said, but then she thought of something else, "By the way, if Lucien calls you, tell him the same thing, okay?"
"Ella, you've really changed. So dishonest now," Cendy was never this blunt with Ella.
"Just you wait. I'll show you what a real liar looks like." With that, Ella hung up. She didn't need to worry about being polite when it came to Cendy.
She turned her head to look at Eden, who appeared disinterested in the phone call she had with Cendy, idly swiping his cell phone next to her.
"Hold on to the video," Ella said, getting down to business.
"You don't want to leak it?" Eden raised his eyes and asked casually.
"Not for now," Ella was resolute, "I'm going to take Lucien from heaven to hell, and I want him to feel every second of that fall."
Eden's eyes twitched slightly. There was something unbelievable about Ella's sudden change. How could she transform like this? What had she gone through to make her become like this?
Last night, she'd been talking in her sleep. She'd accused Lucien of destroying her family and murdering her parents—even murdering her. While she was asleep, she was mumbling about finally getting revenge.
If it was just a nightmare, how could reality run in that direction? And if it wasn't a nightmare, how did Ella know that Lucien would do all these awful things? Too many doubts surfaced in Eden's mind, but he didn't show it on the surface.
"I'm leaving," Ella said, not daring to delay any further. She was ready to leave the villa right away.
"In my pajamas?" Eden asked with a smirk, standing behind her.
