Chapter 17: Ella Throws Herself At Him

The door to the private room swung open, revealing a scene of men and women amidst flashing lights, their bodies swaying to the music. It was difficult to distinguish one person from another in the vibrant crowd. Thankfully, Ella didn't encounter the unsightly images she had imagined.

The waiter spoke with utmost respect, "Right this way, ma'am. Master Eden is inside."

"Thank you," Ella nodded, then she pursed her lips lightly and walked in.

As she walked in, Ella didn't need to look around much before she spotted Eden sitting on the couch, holding a wine glass with his legs crossed. He wore an interested smile on his face, and it was evident that he had seen her right away.

He simply watched, not bothering to get up and greet her.

Ella couldn't bear the loud noise from the stereo, the screams, and the cheers inside the room. The environment was becoming increasingly difficult for her to tolerate. She stood in front of Eden and spoke up, "Could you clear the floor?"

Eden's lips maintained their attractive curve, and he furrowed his brow slightly, appearing as if he hadn't heard her. Ella raised her voice a bit and repeated, "Could you clear the floor, please?"

Judging by Eden's expression, it seemed he still hadn't heard her. Ella clenched her teeth in frustration. Determined, she bent down, leaned in, and whispered in his ear, "Could you... ah!"

Before she could finish, Ella's body lost its balance as someone unexpectedly bumped into her from behind, causing her to stumble and fall into Eden's arms. It was as if she had thrown herself into his embrace, their bodies pressing against each other closely.

Ella, usually composed, found herself flustered by the unexpected situation. The woman who accidentally bumped into her during the dance was equally startled, letting out a panicked scream that captured the attention of everyone in the private room.

All eyes turned towards them, witnessing Eden with his arms around the petite woman. The contrast between Eden's imposing figure and the woman's delicate appearance was sensual, adding another layer of intrigue to the already compromising position.

It was quiet for a moment as everyone took in the sight, stunned.

Rumor had it that Eden had a habit of coming on to women, but no one had witnessed it firsthand. In fact, in his presence, women would consciously keep their distance, and no one dared to overstep boundaries.

But at that very moment, in front of everyone, Eden had a woman lying in his arms. To add fuel to the fire, he was laughing with a hint of affection in his eyes.

No one dared to speak a word or even steal a second glance. The fear of Eden ran deep. Even though he had never harmed anyone or broken the law, his mere presence instilled fear in anyone who crossed his path.

"Jonas, turn off the stereo," Eden spoke in a calm tone, not raising his voice too much. Jonas, who was seated next to Eden, didn't hear him clearly, but they'd known each other long enough that he got the gist of it.

Jonas nodded and got up to turn off the stereo.

Finally recovering from her initial shock, Ella managed to extricate herself from Eden's embrace. As she stood up, her face visibly flushed with embarrassment. Throughout her life, Ella had always been meticulous about her manners and had never behaved so impulsively, let alone thrown herself into a man's arms on a whim.

During the ten years she'd been married to Lucien, she maintained her reserved demeanor. That entire time, Lucien respected her personal space, and the two treated each other with respect. Ella used to think she was so lucky to have such a chivalrous husband…

Now she knows the only reason he never invaded her space was because he had no feelings for her.

With the stereo now off, the room fell into silence, but it only made Ella feel more uncomfortable. She lifted her gaze to look at Eden, who remained seated on the sofa, his expression unchanged. She kept her eyes on him, but spoke up loud enough for the whole room to hear, "Everyone, get out."

As Ella requested, the men and women inside the room left, leaving only her, Eden, and Jonas, who stood to the side, keenly observing the situation.

Quietly regaining control over her emotions, Ella couldn't help but feel a bit upset. Eden had clearly heard her earlier request but chose to act as if he hadn't. He'd made a fool out of her.

Unless…

If he really didn't hear her, he must've known instinctively that she'd want to be alone. Why would he have Jonas turn off the music otherwise?

She reminded herself not to underestimate this man. After all, she still had a favor to ask from him.

Ella asked, "Should he leave too?" Her gaze shifted to Jonas, the young master of the Davis family.

Despite not being ranked among the four great families, the Davis family had experienced significant growth over the years. Rumors suggested that the Davis family held considerable influence in both the underworld and legitimate business. There were even speculations about their connections with a crime syndicate in San Francisco, which made the general public wary of crossing paths with them.

And all of those rumors were true.

Ella, having experienced the next ten years before being reincarnated, was well aware of the Davis family's influence. Seeing Jonas in front of her, she couldn't help but size him up carefully.

What she didn't understand was why he was here. The Davis family clearly had all the power they could ask for, and Jonas was the heir to their empire.

So why was he following Eden around? Who the hell was Eden, really?

If he could order around Jonas like that, that had to mean that they both gained something from their relationship. They must be partners in crime somehow…

"No, he can stay," Eden smiled.

That settled it. He and Jonas had an unusual partnership, probably related to Jonas's underground connections.

If Eden trusts him, then Ella won't dwell on such trivial matters. There was no reason for her to feel squeamish or threatened by him.

Ella took a breath, then said, "I've given it some thought, and I don't think I can break off my engagement with Lucien on my own. I need a hand."

Eden casually sipped his wine, and his gaze remained fixed on Ella, offering no immediate response.

Ella continued, "The best way to end things with Lucien is to expose him. There's no shortage of scandals involving him, but the ones that'll destroy his reputation are his cheating and stealing. Revealing his infidelity during our wedding will be the best way to deal with that hypocrite!"

Eden continued to listen to Ella's words, downing the drink inside his glass without any hesitation. His Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed, and it was impossible to ignore just how sexy it was.

Ella shifted her gaze away, her voice determined as she spoke, "I need video evidence of his infidelity, and I need your help getting it."

Eden put his glass down and got up, walking over to Ella. Despite wearing heels today, Ella still felt small and stiff in front of Eden. However, she straightened her back, determined not to lose her resolve due to fear.

"Didn't you meet with Lucien and his family earlier to discuss your marriage? You do understand how two-faced you look right now, don't you? You're a wild card, Miss Ford. How do I know I can trust you?"

Ah.

Eden still didn't believe her.
