Chapter 13: Wedding Talks, Acting Out

As they were still in the car, Ella spoke earnestly to Daisy, "Mom, besides not being so naive and filial to Grandma, there's no need to be lenient towards Uncle Morton's family in any way."

Daisy smiled helplessly and said, "Your father is trying to avoid family conflicts. The Ford Family inheritance should have gone to Morton by right, but your grandfather chose to give it all to your dad, so it's understandable that your Morton's family is upset."

"But that's no excuse for them to bully us so much. Mom, there used to be flawed logic in our family. Everyone just agreed that Morton should've received the inheritance, and when it went to Dad instead, we felt like we had to apologize for it! But did you ever stop to wonder why Grandpa chose Dad over Uncle?"

Daisy was stunned, realizing that she had indeed never given much thought to it.

"That's because Morton wasn't capable of shouldering the responsibility of the family, which is why Grandpa chose my dad. We shouldn't feel guilty; instead, we should be proud. We are the ones who upheld the family business. The rest of the family, including my uncle, should be grateful to us instead of treating us the way they are now, with their snide remarks and constant harassment."

Daisy was visibly convinced by her daughter's words.

She realized that they had been putting themselves down all along, just to avoid internal conflicts. But now, she understood that inheriting the family fortune was due to their capability, and there was no reason for them to endure such criticism any longer.

Ella noticed that her mom seemed to comprehend, and she added, "So, Mom, in the future, don't just accept their treatment. Otherwise, they will truly believe they are justified in their actions!"

"You're right," Daisy agreed, "Being submissive to them won't resolve anything. Give them an inch, and they'll take a mile."

"That's what I'm talking about!" Ella grinned.

Daisy smiled dotingly, "Is that why you let me come with you today?"

Indeed, the demonstration to her mom was not the sole purpose. Ella's actions today were also intended to deliberately provoke Hedy and, more precisely, to provoke Doris.

Hedy must be jealous of the scenery she's in right now; after all, Hedy always thinks she's the Ford Family princess, so she's always comparing herself to Ella, and can't stand the fact that Ella has more and is doing better than she is.

When Hedy becomes jealous, she tends to act irrationally. However, Hedy lacks the cleverness and cunning that Doris possesses, so Doris will undoubtedly offer advice to please Hedy. But, of course, Doris's 'help' isn't for Hedy's benefit.

Doris is trying to tear her down just as badly.

Ella smiled coldly. Reincarnation is a wonderful thing. Now she knows the true nature of all the people around her, and she'll use their conniving ways against them. This time, she'll come out on top.

It won't be easy for Doris to seduce Lucien. He was always prudent–even before their engagement–so he didn't really seek out affairs on his own. Still, if someone were to throw themselves down in front of him… Lucien would be a dog to their charms.

So Ella will just sit back and enjoy the show, waiting for her marriage to collapse before it even begins.

When Ella and Daisy returned to the Ford Family villa, they were unexpectedly greeted by Jack's presence. He looked a bit surprised to see them out together and asked, "Where did you both go so early in the morning?"

"To Grandma's house," Doris replied.

Jack's expression clearly changed, and he spoke with a slightly reproachful tone, "You went out without even telling me? You should have let me accompany you."

In her past life, Ella's father had deliberately avoided the people in the old Ford Family mansion, treating them like vicious animals. Now, Ella realized that it was all unwarranted on behalf of her family. They had sought to please their relatives, only to be betrayed in return. Her relatives had joined forces with the Williams Family to kill her and her parents!

Ella bit her tongue.

Daisy smiled and replied, "Maybe in the future. You were busy with your work, and I didn't want to bother you with trivial matters."

Jack appeared a bit uncertain. In the past, every time Daisy had to return to the old Ford Family mansion, she would be nervous and even feel down for several days afterward. However, at this moment, it was clear she was feeling good.

"Right. It's still early in the day. Why are you back home already? Is something wrong?" Daisy smoothly changed the topic.

Jack was still skeptical, but he decided not to ask further questions. Instead, he replied, "Ivan Williams invited us over to their home for lunch at noon today. He said he wants to discuss the matter of Ella and Lucien's marriage next month." As he spoke, he couldn't help but glance at Ella.

Ella smiled and said in a matter-of-fact tone, "Go ahead."

"Aren't we all planning on calling off the marriage?" Jack asked, confused.

"That's for later. Right now, the Williams Family has made their intentions clear, so we'll follow their lead and fully cooperate with them. We need to play along."

That way, it'd be all the more humiliating to pull the rug out from under them on the wedding day.

"Alright," Jack nodded, trusting her judgment.

Having promised his daughter to let her handle the marriage matter on her own, Jack and the family listened to all of Ella's arrangements without delay. After changing into appropriate attire, they headed directly to the Williams Family Villa. At the entrance, they were warmly received by the two elders of the Williams Family, as well as Lucien and his sister, Lydia.

In her past life, Ella had always believed that the Williams Family greeted them warmly because they valued their family. Now, she realized that it was all for appearances.

As Ella stepped out of their limo, she noticed paparazzi lurking in the shadows. Knowing the exclusivity of the high-class villa area, she understood that their presence was intentionally arranged. Not even flies could come in without permission. Despite this, she didn't react and accepted their hospitality just like her parents.

The group walked into the Williams Family villa, appearing perfectly composed.

Just in time for lunch, they all sat around the large round table, surrounded by a vast array of food, giving off an air of sincerity. Ivan spoke up, "I had initially planned to have everyone over on the weekend, that way Jack and Lucien wouldn't have to call out of work. But then I felt the days were passing quickly, and I started to feel really impatient. I hope it's alright I chose today. You weren't too inconvenienced, were you, Jack?" His tone was amicable and casual.

Ella sneered inwardly.

Did he really expect them to believe that he moved the lunch up just because he was impatient? It was obvious that the Williams Family had another motive, especially after the news articles affected the Williams Group's stock market yesterday, causing it to plummet.

"We are all family here, so don't worry about it!" Jack waved him off. Being in the business world for decades, Jack knew a thing or two about diplomacy. "At this age, I've handed over most of the work to my subordinates. There's no need for me to manage everything so closely anymore."

"And soon, I'll be there to help as well," Lucien quickly added, maintaining a polite tone.

"I know, Lucien. When you and Ella get married, our family business will become your responsibility to deal with," Jack replied casually.

Ella couldn't help but smile subtly at her dad's impressive acting skills.

"Don't worry, sir. You can leave it to me," Lucien responded with delight upon hearing Jack's words.
