Chapter 9
Things quieted down for a while after that, but then she showed up again, looking even more disheveled than before.
She had sold all her valuable jewelry and sold off any clothes she could at low prices, just to raise a bit of capital.
She looked at me, tears falling. She wiped them away defiantly:
"Felix, it must have been really tough for you back then when you were chasing all those business deals, facing rejection but still persevering."
Apparently, during this time she had been busy trying to drum up business herself, and now she understood the hardships I had endured before.
I smiled:
"Yeah, when your company was just starting out, it was so small that I, as a tech guy, had to go negotiate deals myself."
"It's different now. I just need to do my job well. There's a dedicated department for sales negotiations, so I don't have to worry about it."
"It's not tiring at all, and the salary is very high."
Gwendolyn froze, looking very awkward. After hesitating for a while, she gritted her teeth:
"Salary is nothing. I can let you buy in with your technical skills. Why work for others when you can be your own boss?"
I laughed coldly: "Be the boss of a company that's about to go bankrupt?"
Gwendolyn was about to explain when her phone rang.
On the other end, an employee urgently said:
"Ms. Qin, please come back quickly. Director Brown has slit his wrists."
Gwendolyn trembled in shock and was about to leave.
But when her eyes met mine, she stopped in her tracks. She bit her lip and made a tough decision:
"What Director Brown? He's already been fired."
"If he wants to commit suicide, call the police and send him to the hospital. I'm not a doctor, why are you calling me?"
With that, Gwendolyn hung up the phone.
She even showed me that she had deleted all of Rowan's contact information and promised she would never contact him again.
She held onto me, not letting me leave, and started complaining about Rowan.
That's when I learned that she had been running around recently and finally managed to secure a small deal thanks to her past performance.
But when Rowan was handling it, he complained the price was too low and had a terrible attitude, even getting into an argument with the client on the spot.
The client got angry and terminated the contract, blacklisting the company and badmouthing them everywhere.
As a result, Gwendolyn's reputation was ruined along with the company's, and they couldn't get a single opportunity.
