Chapter 10
Seeing that I still hadn't reacted, Gwendolyn started playing the emotional card again, trying to make me change my mind.
"Think back to when we first started the company. We had to stretch every penny. Later when we had money, we still couldn't bear to spend it."
No way!
She just couldn't bear to spend money on me.
The gifts she bought for Rowan were never the same twice.
Rowan was a fresh graduate from an ordinary background, but he could dress up nicely every day thanks to Gwendolyn's support.
You could say that everything Rowan wore, right down to his underwear, was bought by Gwendolyn.
But I, who had given so much for the company and for her, got nothing.
Thinking about it now, I was really blinded by love back then. How did I put up with it?
Gwendolyn didn't know what I was thinking and kept rambling on:
"When you finally landed the first project, you were so excited you couldn't sleep all night. You said the company was like your child, and you wanted to watch it grow better and better."
"Later, many companies tried to poach you, but you never left..."
"Felix, I'm begging you, okay?"
"The company needs you, and I can't live without you!"
She choked up as she spoke.
Once again, I shook off her hand and said seriously:
"Gwendolyn, I'll say this for the last time. We're over."
"Don't come bother me again in the future."
Gwendolyn watched my resolute departing figure. She walked to the riverside and shouted:
"Felix! If you don't help me, I'll kill myself!"
"We've been together for so many years. Are you really going to watch me die?"
I didn't look back, just tossed a sentence over my shoulder as I walked away:
"I'm not like you. I won't abandon my principles because of someone's threats."
"Take care of yourself!"
Behind me came the sound of someone falling into water. The surrounding pedestrians let out cries of alarm and rushed to save her. Only I walked in the opposite direction, unwavering.
Gwendolyn had jumped into the river, but she was quickly rescued.
In the end, her company still went bankrupt. Not only that, but she was also left with a huge debt.
She was even sued by employees who hadn't received their salaries.
Later, Rowan proposed to her, and she accepted.
But after marriage, the witty and humorous Rowan she thought she knew completely changed. Or perhaps he just stopped pretending.
He played video games all day and did nothing, just waiting for Gwendolyn to work hard, paying off debts while supporting him.
Gwendolyn was under a lot of pressure, working during the day and setting up a street stall at night.
By chance, I passed by her stall one time. She was the one who recognized me.
But just as she was about to say something, Rowan, who was sitting on the roadside playing games in a white T-shirt, suddenly put down his phone and slapped her face:
"Still calling out to him? If you want to get back together with him so badly, then go!"
Rowan was only smaller in build compared to me, but as a man, his strength was considerable. Gwendolyn couldn't resist at all.
She wore a dirty apron, and her once fair hands were now calloused.
Passersby came forward to intervene. He looked at me pitifully.
But I didn't acknowledge it, walking away coldly.
"The End"
