Chapter 6

The hostess awkwardly approached Gwendolyn:

"I'm sorry, ma'am, but our restaurant has been booked for a private event today. You're welcome to visit another time."

Gwendolyn looked at me as I had already entered the room and called out anxiously:

"I'm his girlfriend! I'm here to see him."

The hostess maintained her polite smile:

"But that gentleman doesn't know you. Please leave for now."

Gwendolyn called my name several times, but I didn't respond. She angrily stomped her foot and ran away.

The CEO looked at me with a smile:

"So that's why you refused to leave before. It was for her."

I forced a smile: "Yes, but not anymore."

The CEO patted my shoulder:

"Let's not talk about the past. Today is your celebration. Everyone eat, drink, and be merry. Money is no object!"

Everyone cheered, showering me with praise.

I smiled and responded to each one, raising my glass.

Gwendolyn stood outside the restaurant, shivering in the cold.

She pitifully pressed against the transparent glass, staring at me.

I waved over a waiter. Her eyes instantly widened, excited to think I had softened and given in.

However, when the waiter went over just to chase her away, her expression completely changed, turning gloomy and terrible.

After we had eaten and drunk our fill, I said goodbye to my colleagues and prepared to take a cab home.

Gwendolyn rubbed her numb legs from crouching for so long and blocked my way. Tears fell as she said:

"How could you go work for a rival company?"

"Felix, do you know? The company we started together is about to fail."

I looked at her coldly.

I had left long ago. Even if the company went bankrupt, it had nothing to do with me.

Just then, Rowan ran over from across the street, thoughtfully draping a coat over Gwendolyn's shoulders before turning to question me:

"Are you even a man? Letting your girlfriend wait out in the cold like this?"

"You're just upset that Gwendolyn valued me more, aren't you?"

"But you didn't have to sabotage all of the company's projects out of revenge, did you?"

Listening to his accusations, I realized that ever since Thunder Tech terminated our contract, it was like dominoes falling. Other projects had also run into problems and were forcibly terminated.

Now the company's work had basically stopped, and they had to pay large amounts in breach of contract penalties.

Most critically, with expenses exceeding income, the company still had daily costs like rent, utilities, and employee salaries. Every day they remained idle, Gwendolyn was losing a lot of money.

At this moment, she had completely lost her proud demeanor and just looked at me:

"Felix, it wasn't until after you left that I realized the company had lost its core without you."

"Can you come back? The director position is still yours. Let's start over."

Hearing this, Rowan's expression instantly changed:

"Gwendolyn, I admit his experience is greater than mine, but does he understand what young people like? Can he keep up with the new era? He..."

Rowan kept rambling on. Gwendolyn, who usually only indulged him, didn't shield him this time. She couldn't help but tell the truth:

"Enough, Rowan. Don't you understand?"

"The reason the company has fallen to this state is because you lack ability and mismanage the team!"

"You focus on useless details and make endless revisions, while neglecting the truly important aspects."

"This led to the project being ruined, which is why all the clients terminated their contracts and demanded compensation."

Rowan, who had been bragging just moments ago, was instantly silenced. His fists clenched, and his eyes immediately reddened:

"I'm sorry, Gwendolyn. I'm useless. Someone like me doesn't deserve to live!"

He ran onto the road like a madman, running red lights.

The drivers slammed on their brakes, cursing loudly.

Gwendolyn's face paled in fright. She was about to chase after him.

Seeing that I was still waiting for a cab, she hesitated for a moment before gritting her teeth:

"I'm sorry, I'm worried he might do something stupid. We'll talk another time."

"My number hasn't changed. Remember to add me back. We can chat online."

With that, she ran after Rowan, calling his name.

My cab arrived, and I got in without acknowledging her.

Ridiculous.

We had broken up, and she still thought I would add her back?
