Chapter 9
Seeing Gabriel's disheveled appearance, Yvette couldn't hold back her words. "Uncle, still no sign of Aunt Olivia? You've been looking for so long. Maybe she really is dead. Why torture yourself like this? There are plenty of women who care about you, like me..."
"Shut up! Olivia would never die, you idiot!" Gabriel snapped, his voice full of rage.
"I-I'm just worried about you..." Yvette stammered, but Gabriel grabbed her by the throat, his expression more terrifying than ever.
"Worried about me? If you were really worried, would you have done those things to make me lose Olivia?!"
Yvette's eyes widened in confusion. "Uncle, what are you saying? I don't understand..."
Gabriel's laugh was cold and bitter. "Still pretending in front of me?"
"I've seen the surveillance footage from the main house. You framed Olivia on purpose. You faked a heart attack to get me to do the transplant immediately, just to get back at her mother! Fine, I was fooled, I admit it. But what did Olivia do wrong?" Gabriel shouted, his voice shaking with fury.
"She lost her mother and had to suffer through the artificial heart. Why did you have to rub it in? Why did you have to tell her how her mother looked before she died? Why did you have to push her to the edge, making her want to die?"
Yvette hadn't expected Gabriel to figure everything out. She panicked, her voice shaky as she tried to defend herself. "Uncle, I-I didn't mean to. I was just afraid that you wouldn't love me anymore after marrying Olivia. I care about you too much..."
Gabriel's voice turned icy. "I've been married to Olivia for seven years. Haven't I loved you enough? Even more than I've loved her!"
He took a step forward, his eyes burning with anger. "Yvette, stop lying. You don't care about me. You only care about the status I can give you. Olivia never fought for anything. Why did you have to push her so far?"
"Since you hate her so much, you don't need her heart anymore."
Yvette clutched her chest, panic flooding her. "W-what do you mean?"
Gabriel's smile was chilling. "I mean, you need to give Olivia's heart back. Maybe she'll forgive me if I do."
Yvette was terrified, but she tried to keep her composure, laughing nervously. "O-okay, once I find another heart, I'll give it back to Aunt Olivia."
But Gabriel shook his head, his eyes cold as ice. "No, I need to find Olivia now. I can't stand the thought of making her wait, even for a second."
The boomerang of her past actions had finally come back to hit Yvette.
Panicking, she tried to run, but Gabriel swiftly cut her hamstring with a scalpel.
"Be good, Yvette. Don't you care about me? If you really do, help me bring Olivia back."
Yvette's screams echoed through the villa as Gabriel's grip tightened.
After finishing work at the studio, Fiona called me, inviting me for a walk on the beach.
I never expected to see Gabriel again.
When I spotted him, his face lit up with joy. "Olivia, is it really you? I thought I was seeing things. Olivia, I've missed you so much..."
Gabriel was carrying a brown, light-proof container that seemed to hold some kind of liquid, its pungent smell lingering in the air.
Noticing the wary look on my face, Gabriel proudly held out the container. "Olivia, look! I brought your heart back. While it's still viable, let me perform the surgery for you. You won't have to suffer from the artificial heart anymore."
My heart?
What had happened to Yvette? Did she get a different donor?
I didn't hesitate. "No need. Fiona already found a matching heart for me and performed the surgery. You should go. I don't want to see you again. I don't want anything that's been inside Yvette's body. Donate it to someone who actually needs it," I said flatly, turning away from him.
Gabriel stood frozen, stunned. He had expected that, if he returned the heart, I would forgive him.
