Chapter 10
Fiona pulled me behind her like a protective mother hen, glaring at Gabriel. "You bastard! We haven't even made you pay for your role in Olivia's mother's death, and now you have the audacity to show up? Olivia doesn't want you anymore. Get lost!"
Her words hit Gabriel like a slap to the face. He put the bottle down and tried to step toward me, but when he saw me retreat, he froze.
In the past, if he took one step toward me, I would have rushed ninety-nine steps toward him.
Gabriel's eyes were filled with heartbreak and regret. "I'm so sorry about your mom. But Yvette tricked me. I didn't know she was faking the chest pain back then... Olivia, your mom's gone now. Let me take care of you. I'll love you more than she did. I'll treat you better."
I finally took a step toward him.
Fiona's eyes widened in surprise, but she didn't stop me, only sighing deeply.
Gabriel looked at me, hope in his eyes. "Olivia, will you give me a chance? I swear, I'll make you happy..."
SLAP,
I slapped him hard across the face, cutting off whatever he was about to say.
"Gabriel Grant, how dare you mention my mother in front of me?"
"She could've survived. You took that away from her."
"You made her watch her own daughter get cut open and have her heart taken out for the woman who stole her daughter's fiancé. And after all that, you still had the nerve to marry me?"
"You pushed me into hell and took my mother from me. What right do you have to say you'll love me more than she did?"
Gabriel's eyes welled with tears, guilt and remorse flooding his face. "Olivia, I'm so sorry. I'll atone for my sins for the rest of my life, as long as you don't leave me..."
I scoffed coldly, my voice biting. "Gabriel, how pathetic are you? Do you think I could ever live with you after knowing everything? Do you think my mother would want that?"
"If she knew in the afterlife, she'd wish for your quick death. And honestly, so would I. The only reason I haven't killed you myself is because I'm not about to waste my life on someone like you."
"Even a drop of your blood on me would make me feel filthy."
Gabriel froze, his face draining of color.
I took a final step back, my voice steady and cold. "One last thing: Stay away from me."
With that, I turned and walked away with Fiona, not sparing him another glance.
Gabriel stood there on the beach for a long time, finally leaving only when daylight broke.
Word soon spread that, when he returned to Ashton City, he was taken into custody by the police. A passerby had noticed blood pooling under the door of his villa and called it in.
When the police arrived, they found Yvette's body inside.
Gabriel was sentenced to death for both intentional homicide and organ theft.
As for my heart, since it was still viable, it was donated to someone in need.
A few days later, the news reported that the former CEO of Grant Group had died in prison. He'd stabbed himself in the chest with a sharpened chopstick and bitten through his own wrist tendons.
It's hard to imagine the kind of courage and resolve that must have taken.
Only I knew, he was trying to apologize.
But unfortunately, I'll never forgive him.
