Chapter 9
Louise looked bewildered, "What wedding gift?" Her expression shifted to one of wariness as she stared at me, "You wouldn't be so kind."My smile deepened, "Of course. If I weren't so kind, why else would your husband be here begging me?"Everyone caught on to the implications in my words, including Troy. He looked up in shock, "Felicia! Was it you... who caused those companies to cancel their contracts with me?"Of course, it was me. If I hadn't deliberately intervened, how else would Troy find himself in his current predicament?
I sipped my wine slowly, savoring the moment, "Fair is fair, Troy. The startup funds you used back then came from me. Now that we're divorced, reclaiming what's mine doesn't seem unreasonable, does it?"
I glanced at Mr. Anderson, who immediately laughed and nodded, "Not unreasonable at all. Completely justified!"But Louise sneered, her tone mocking, "Felicia, you're no longer Mrs. Angelo. What big talk you're spouting here! Without Troy supporting you, you're just a housewife pretending to be a boss. Who are you fooling?"Her gaze drifted suggestively to Mr. Anderson beside me, "Oh, or perhaps you've latched onto another sugar daddy to flaunt yourself here?"
I shook my head, amused by her ignorance. Her words didn't just offend me, they managed to offend Mr. Anderson as well.
His face darkened with fury and he couldn't hold back anymore. He raised his hand and slapped her hard across the face, "Mr. Angelo, control your woman! If she embarrasses herself like this again, don't blame me for being ruthless!"
After teaching Louise a lesson, Mr. Anderson turned to me apologetically, "Miss Hoffman, let's not waste our time on trash like this! And you, Mr. Angelo, don't expect any business from Chicago in the future! Hmph!"
Louise finally realized the gravity of the situation. Her face turned pale as she stammered, "Miss Hoffman? Felicia... Could she really be the head of the Hoffman Group?"
That night, a furious Troy unleashed his rage on Louise in their hotel suite, beating her brutally. She cried and pleaded for mercy, "Felicia has been deceiving you all along! Troy, if she truly loved you, why wouldn't she tell you she's the head of the Hoffman Group?
She clearly didn't care about you that much. She was just toying with you!" But her manipulative words quickly backfired. That same night, Troy's anger boiled over and the consequences were severe. He beat her until she had a miscarriage.
A private investigator handed me photos. That evening, Troy was seen cradling Louise in a bloodstained white dress, frantically stopping cars to rush her to the hospital. It was then that the truth emerged, Louise's child was not his. I had suspected it all along. When I was pregnant, it took over ten rounds of IVF and tremendous effort to conceive.
I never believed Louise could so easily get pregnant. She had once mocked me with a smug expression, "Felicia, you're old and past your prime. It's normal for you to struggle with pregnancy. How could you compare to me? I'm young and full of life!" But now, she was slapped in the face by reality. Her child was actually fathered by a stranger she met at a nightclub. In order to secure her position as Mrs. Angelo, she kept the pregnancy, lying that the child was Troy's.
After learning the truth, Troy was furious. He had Louise captured and subjected her to severe retaliation. Her face was slashed with a knife, leaving her permanently disfigured. Afterward, she was thrown into a nightclub.
"You love fooling around with men, don't you? I'll let you indulge!" he spat coldly.
"You ruined my life, my broken family, my lost wife, my bankrupt company, all because of you!"
"The pain Felicia endured, I'll make sure you feel it tenfold!"
Troy was consumed with regret. He stayed in Chicago, desperate to seek my forgiveness. But even after I rejected him for the fifth time, he refused to leave. When news of his company's bankruptcy broke, Troy collapsed and fell gravely ill.
